Dog Bites

As of 2022, 44.5% of US households own dogs). People love their furry friends and dogs are an essential part of so many families. Many employees of Herrmann Law Group are dog owners themselves.

Since our dogs are so important to us, it is important that we take care of them and make sure we ensure their safety along with the safety of others.

There are 4.5 million bite incidents a year. It is very important to keep our furry friends safe and secure so that these incidents don’t occur. We believe that all dogs can be safe, so long as they are trained, well-loved, and acclimated to potential strangers. For example, one way owners keep their dogs safe is by getting pet insurance (it’s cheap) for their healthcare. But many may not be aware it is equally important to make sure you have home owners insurance that covers your dog in case of a bite incident.

If you’re a dog owner, please be sure to verify with your homeowners insurance that your dog is covered. If your homeowners insurance has a pet exclusion, it is vital to have added coverage in order to protect yourself against claims due to an unfortunate bite or attack by your dog. Similar to having car insurance in case of an auto accident, it is absolutely necessary to cover your dogs.

Hopefully, you never get bitten or attacked by a dog. However, if you are the victim of a dog bite, here is a checklist of things to do:

1.      Get as far away as you can from the dog.

2.      Go to the hospital and receive medical treatment.

3.      Obtain the dog owner’s name, address, and phone number.

4.      If possible, take a picture of the dog and dog owner.

5.      Contact the attorneys at Herrmann Law Group as soon as possible.

Thankfully, incidents of dog bites have decreased in the last few decades. Even still, if you have small children, always check with the dog owner before approaching their dog. Most dog owners are well aware of how friendly and loving their dogs are or if their dogs are more shy and skittish around strangers.

Dog bites are unfortunate and they happen all too often. If you find yourself in this situation, contact Herrmann Law Group immediately. It is important to protect your rights, secure treatment for your medical needs, and receive compensation for your injuries.
